I'll be in the Gorge next week and was thinking about making a possible side trip over to the coast if the weather cooperates, possibly Cape Kiwanda. I know it's a long shot but I was wondering what time of year the sun shines through the large sea cave at Cape Kiwanda? and is the location hard to find? Thanks for any help!
I don't know the answer to the sun alignment question, but tides might also be important to consider. There is an iPhone/iPad app called Photo Pills (bad name) that helps you determine sun and moon alignment at various times of day and seasons with respect to particular landscape features. Imagine google earth overlaid with photographers ephemeris. It's only 9 bucks, I think. I found it useful at Smith Rock and in the Owhyee area.
