Greyhen
Black Grouse tetrao tetrix
Jan 2013, 500/4 1/100 @ f/13, beanbag on car window.

I came across this Greyhen while out and about in the snow last January and spent quite a while with her sat on the fence post. If she doesn't look 100%, it's because she had a bad foot - that only came to light when she moved into a tree and tried to climb up to feed on the buds. I'd like to think that she might have made it through the snow, but nature doesn't take kindly to invalids.

There looks to be some nice detail in the feathers Nick, she stands out nicely on the post too. I would maybe add a small dark frame or possibly crop the brighter top to keep my eye in the frame.

Cheers, Gary.

Nick think maybe Gary as a point re a border to keep the eye in the frame ,the bird looks great in it's snowy habitat.

Feels cold just looking at it Nick, great atmosphere. Am happy without a frame, adds to the impact of the snow and cold. Great detail on the Grouse, like to think as it was a foot rather than a wing, she would survive.

Good looking shot, Nick. You have some great detail and depth running throughout the plumage and the snowy setting makes for a very nice scene.
