What a great photo. Light, pose, exposure and just about everything else makes this a real gem.Square crop is not something I'm over keen on, but without knowing what the original looked like I'm not going to criticise your choice. If it were me taking a shot of this one I'd have been tempted to shoot it vertically with the bird high and then mid frame first, then maybe take a few landscape profiles with the bird left, right and centre.

I agree with the above, great stare from the LOWL but portrait may been better suited. Cracker of a shot either way though!
What makes this photo for me is the rised foot and intense stare of the owl. I might be tempted to do something about that twig on it's chest. Square crop is fine with me.
Thanks Chris, John, Marko,. Marco recon if I tried to remove that bit of straw I would make a mess so thought better leave well alone

Works for me as presented, the only minor nit for me is yellow chip in the perch which doesn't harmonise with the other tones in the mage - I would be tempted to clone that out...., otherwise great shot

Keith one of the best LO shots posted, by all means remove the small projecting straw on the stump, but the OP has far more character and set's it above the rest.
Always love seeing pics of these owls, they just seem to have such attitude!
However, I'm with John in that I'm not a fan of the square crop and would probably prefer a portrait instead. I'd also agree with Steve about leaving the straw/twig on the bird's breast, but removing the straw and white poop from the stump.
