Hi,
for some reason I can't open Jpegs or tiffs thru Bridge with the raw file editor any longer. this is the message I get: "Bridge parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature". I do have PSCS4 open. I recently upgraded to WIN8.1. Anybody ran into this problem before? Any solution for this? I am also getting this message when trying to open camera raw preferences in bridge. Thanks for your time.
Since you recently upgraded to Win 8.1, it would be a good idea to manually check for updates to CS4, Bridge, and ACR if you haven't done so already.
You might also want to check around the web, or at Adobe, to see if there are any reported incompatibilities between Bridge, CS4 and your version of ACR.
You could also delete your CS4 'Preferences' file, restart CS4 and try again to open the files from Bridge.
If these steps don't work, you'll have to dig deeper.
That's all I can think of as a starting point.

This handy tip is a great way to fix many little problems with PS. Press CTRL-SHIFT-ALT immediately after you start PS. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes. After you restart PS, check Edit->Preferences to make sure that your preferences are the way you want them.
The first section shows you which files you can temporarily move so that when you open PS a new preference file will be created.
The second section shows you how to use the trick John mentions.
Each method has it's pluses, but the keystroke sequence method has some pitfalls that are discussed in the video.

Since I bumped up to Win 8.1 I've had some doozies show up with CC apps too (Photoshop & Premiere and Bridge). I actually promised a while back that I was going to do a full review of CC and Win 7 and Win 8 and bears oh my, but updates are flying out and versions are changing so quickly, I can't keep up! Photoshop and Premiere got totally replaced with new versions on the last update in October so had I reviewed them it would have been for naught.
ANYHOO, once you try resetting prefs, let us know. It's VERY helpful to have feedback on how older versions of PS run on Win8.1.
One thing I'm digging about the CC subscription: when I'm ready to chuck my PC across Beggar's Canyon with a hydraulic Punkin Chucker, I can simply grit my teeth and buy my Mac Pro for 30 million bucks and happily install the Adobe suite with no license hassles. I've been programming apps for Windows for 15 years, I think I'm done. None of this has absolutely anything to do with your issue I realize! Let us know what happens.

Well, I reset the preferences, but no change, ever since the 8.1 upgrade I can not open JPEGS and TIFFS from bridge, there is one work around which is a pain, While in PSCS4 I go to preferences>Camera RAW preferences and change the JPEG and TIFF handling settings to "Automatically open all supported JPEGS or TIFFS. Problem with this is that it always opens JPEGS and TIFFS in ACR. There are several other issues with 8.1 not related to photoshop. You figure they get it right after doing this for so many years. Fortunately and do not use JPEG and TIFFS a lot in ACR.
Just curious, but did you get the issues sorted out?
If so, what were the fixes?

Hi Preston
No, I didn't solve the issue with the JPEGS and TIFFS in ACR, I googled but everybody seems to think that resetting the preference file would solve the problem, but it doesn't. I've reset the file twice, but still the same error message and no solution, I had this problem on my desktop a long time ago, but I can't remember how I fixed it. Thanks for the response.

I am still using Windows 7, so I don't know if this will help. I have used the right click and chose the open in camera raw. You can also select Open in Camera RAW option in the FILE drop down menu (CNTL+R). On earlier versions of Bridge, I have had to go to the open with selection after right clicking on the picture. I am also using that new fangled pay-by-the-month thing that Adobe went to. I have used this for JPEG and TIFF files, but I could find no way to open a PSD file in RAW. Good luck!
