This hawk stayed in our backyard for over an hour. It was not until I downloaded that I saw the injury to its beak. I think there is some type of line, such as fishing line involved. Just wondering what others might think. The hawk did end up feeding on a rabbit in a corner of our yard, but I do not know if it was killed by the hawk.
Any comments would be welcome.

Hard to tell, but the upper portion of the beak's definitely been opened up/damaged John.
I see the crossing lines coming up, so you may be right about the hook/line thing.
Or could be a fight with another hawk, hitting something inflight, etc.
Thanx for posting this

John -
If you see the Coopers again, contact your local Audubon chapter and see if they have a list of bird rescue-rehab providers in your area. Get in touch with them and see if they want to attempt a capture and rehab. It takes a deep cut to the nares to draw blood. And, obviously, it weakens the birds primary tool, its beak.
