... even though, brr, it's cold, but not that cold yet!
One from back in February & here's hoping for a lovely white winter again this year - I know a lot of you won't want that as a snowflake in the home counties seems to be a national disaster these days with everywhere grinding to a halt , but hey, it means there's lots of lovely empty roads up here on the moors to go and photograph the Grouse from.
I spent about half an hour with a pair of grouse just watching them feed and chase others of their territory. It's interesting to observe the grouse dynamic when the snows arrive, and especially if it lies on the ground for longer than a few days. I've seen some very large feeding packs form these last couple of winters with several hundred birds in them.
tech's - who cares! I was over knee deep in a snow bank and it was cold

Nick I have tried this type of shot myself but not been as good as this ,I do like the fluffed up feathers and the relaxed pose of the Grouse. Like I have already stated I will stay.

Hi Nick,
A lovelly photo. And ummm, what's wrong with snow? If you ask me, I prefer -20 to +30 degrees Centigrate. And I'm quite a bit souther than you are .
Hey Marko! A very long time since I saw your name around! Hope things are well with you & your family
Yes, you're positively tropical at 8 degrees south of me (46 vs 54!) but I think the mountains mean you're a touch more used to snowy weather in Slovenia than the south of England is though. Just looked at the line of Latutude for 54 degrees and seems it crosses Lake Baikal, Sakhalin Island, bits of Kamchatka and a some of Alaska, so we should be used to snow - just grateful there're no Polar bears still hanging around tho' .

Hi Nick,
Things around here are more or less under control . I hope I'll be abble to participate regularly in the future.
Weather in the winter is all right till the wind is blowing from North-East, namely from Sibiria. When it turns towards South-West, we can have jumps from 20 to +10 almost overnight .
I don't know if Polar bears are worse than Brown bears. Brown bears on the other hand are all right, the only problem with them is, that they keep avoiding my camera .

I like that, the fluffed up feathers really add to the chill factor. Hope you get your snow!
