Here is a link to a map that outlines some proposed areas that will be possibly opened up to ORV usage.
Looks like it includes the Alabama Hills and some areas around Bishop too.
In amongst the cacti and the backdrop of the sierras we now maybe able to catch some ORV's in our photos kicking up some dust......Yipee-Ki-Yay.
Harley, I'm glad you've asked and thank you for taking the time to comment. It is not federal level that I can see, but by email address it's in Inyo County.
Here is a link to a group that I often "Take Action" with as they call it on issues. I must get about 30 a week from certain groups and I'm sure most every congressional soul knows me by now as a result.
Anyway, I signed this easy fill out form earlier today on the subject. ORV Comment

Difficult to tell the exact location of the "proposed" access but the red lines on the map look like the dirt roads that are already there which I travel on with my pickup when in the area.
Hi Reno, I think you're absolutely correct about that. I too use those same dirt roads. But, having owned an ATV in my earlier years I saw MANY folks who just could not contain themselves to remaining in those areas designated for ORV usage. I would see the Alabama Hills as an easy target for misuse. The few roads there can be photographed around without any issues. However, if laid waste to ORV tracks all over the area I'm afraid it will become a nasty & dusty bowl.
Time will tell where this all comes out in the end.

Thanks Paul, I agree; once someone gets off the dirt roads they will tear the countryside up, make a real mess.

Thanks for the alert. It was very easy to use. I also posted about it on Natural History Wanderings. The more people who sent emails the better our chances of stopping the destruction of the land.
