Hey all, will be visiting Charleston next week and staying on Folly Island.I am interested in nature photog, wildlife, birds, sunrise and sunset, even macro, but want to travel lightly. Any ideas on locations plus lens selection will be appreciated. Ray Dove

Definitely try a sunrise at the far north end of Folly at the old coast guard station. Park on the road just before the gate and walk to the beach. Nice view of the Morris Island Lighthouse, rock walls, boneyard beach type area. Sunset is best seen from the south end of Folly. Again, park on the road and walk past the county park gate as it will close. This part of the island can be walked all the way to the end overlooking Kiawah island and the Folly River. You will get trapped if it is high tide...make sure you pick a low tide day or any falling tide to head all the way down there.
Must photograph around the downtown area if you get a chance. Rainbow Row, the Battery, Waterfront park...dolphins are often spotted here especially on an outgoing tide, Chalmers St (cobblestone). A fantastic place for birds is actually Magnolia Cemetery. Not to be confused with Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Magnolia Cemetery is located just outside of downtown and is a local hot spot for birds. Google it and you'll find all the info you need. Bring your wide angle, mid telephoto (200-300) and your macro.

Have fun!!
