With the cooler temps the past few days, I've really started to look forward to some fall shooting. Does anyone have an interest in organizing a gathering? October 19th - Richland Creek Campground?

Bill, I am in but the following weekend may be better. I am going to leave both weekends available.

Would like to....but I am tied up both the weekends of the 19th and 26th.

Have fun up there.

Sounds great. Count me in.

Bill, would like to do this but Kris and I will be gone until October 23rd. We are going to be in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for the falls colors up there.

Okay, looks like Tom, Rod and I are in. Dottie - sorry you can't make it. Ken - we will monitor the conditions and post updates here for the next few weeks. I agree with Tom, that the following weekend might be better. Will have to see how everything unfolds...

I think I could make the weekend of the 26th, but not the 19th. You guys pick what is best for you, and I will try to make it.

Ken, have fun in the UP. I really me the Porkies and would highly recommend them As a location. One of the few areas in the Midwest with elevation and views. I have a couple of images from Lake of the Clouds area on my website http://www.wildernessphotographer.net/Galleries/North-Woods
Peak color is around October 1 there.

You guys have fun and hope you get some great photos. I will be meeting my brother in the Smokies for a few days so we hope to see some fall colors there.

I will be there Looking forward to it !!!! Paul Reeves was at Richland Creek Campground last Mo. and said it was closed. for repairs.

Yep, the campground is closed. There WAS a lot going on at the campground before the shutdown, with 11 new campsites added. The old ones now have gravel pads. There is also a new gate restricting access to the creek now. New, sticky red clay has been hauled in for the road - hope they will cover it with gravel. While some folks may like the improvements, I think I liked it better before...
I'm thinking the weekend of the 26th will be better for a gathering. What do you guys think?

You know you're getting close to Newton County when you see signs like this at Pelsor...

Tom and I were there on the 19th last year and it was perfect color!!!

My situation is the same. I can't make the 19th, but I am happy for you guys if that is when you have the gathering. If the campground is closed, what is the plan?
Posted by Tom Kennon on October 16, 2013 at 5:55 PM
Bill, the weekend of the 26th gets my vote.

The 26th sounds good to me. I suspect the Richland Creek campground will not be open, so maybe we should try for a spot at Fairview?

My brother-in-law has offered his cabin. It is located just off 123 a few miles west of Pelsor. If this sounds good, please let me know. Two bedrooms, futon, and very large covered porch.

The cabin is 5.6 miles west of Pelsor on 123. Wifi, cell booster, fire pit, grill, and hot water. Much better than Fairview. Please let me know if there is any interest. Otherwise, I'm on board for camping.

I wish I could make it down there but I don't see how I can this time. It looks like your color conditions might be about at peak so I expect to see lots of great pictures coming up.{Jan, if I was coming, I would vote for the cabin}

Cabin sounds good to me.
Thanks Jan!

Not much interest in the cabin. I hope others will join in the conversation, and a decision made where the group is going to go. I already have other duties creeping into my weekend plans, but I am trying to hold them off. :)

Thanks for the offer on the cabin, Jan! I guess we need to get a confirmation on who's attending, and start finalizing plans. There has been some interest in postponing the gathering for a week - when color might be more at the peak. Any thoughts? I'm thinking there will be more color toward Steele Creek this weekend, and am wondering what others might think about moving in that direction. Not sure where we would stay though.

Sounds like we are experiencing the same week behind conditions that happened in Colorado. My vote be make decision based on conditions on Thursday.

The cabin sounds good to me!!!

Postponing a week is fine with me. I am not sure the cabin will be an option then. May have to camp if we stay south.

Jan, I think we are going to visit with the group today and make a decision this afternoon, we will keep you in the loop.
Posted by Tom Kennon on October 24, 2013 at 2:02 PM
The group decision is to wait until next weekend for the fall gathering. I plan on scouting the Richland Creek area on Saturday if anyone is interested?

I did check on the cabin. We can use it next weekend if we decide to stay south. Nice to have options. :)
