Due to the hot weather lately, I decided to try some indoor photography. I have taken photos at the HMNS on numerous occasions and love the minerals/butterfly/paleontology exhibits. The museum allows photography with tripods (No Flash)as long as photography is for personal use and any commercial use must have museum written consent! I spoke with the museum's Director of Web Marketing and was told the museum even opens specific galleries after hours for photographers only, one evening a month. The Hall of Ancient Egypt is scheduled for this month.
One of my favorite minerals in the Cullen Hall of Gems & Minerals, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston, TX. Rhodochrosite from South Africa. Gear: Canon 7D, Lens Canon EFS 18-55 @ 55mm, f/25, 2.5 sec,-2 Exp., ISO 640 w/ Tripod - Taken through glass case.

Richard, great specimen. I think the only other place Rhodochrosite is mined is The Sweet Home Mine in Park County,Colorado. I had the chance to tour the mine a few years back and see how this is mined.
