Some amazing night shooting
We spent last week around the Black Hills in South Dakota. Went out one night to do some night shots. f/2.8 30 minute exposure ISO 1600 Boy those Black Hills are really black at night.....

(couldn't resist....ha!)Just a little NPN humor.

We really did go (motorcycle trip) so I did not get to take my gear. But saw many many photo opportunities while there and cringed every time-just itching to shoot something!

But when you are with a crew, they don't want to wait while you set-up, focus, snap, snap, snap, snap.....

Oh well, some other time maybe...

Nice one, Dottie.
Actually I would be interested in any real images and experiences you have from there. Black Hills and Badlands are places I have never been but would really like to visit someday.

Good decision to add an unnatural black tint in the shadows and cyan in the highlights Dottie. Due to the toning and hues, this photo has a creepy/horror edge to it that I like. There are a few areas on the right that blend in with the background and are difficult to see. I suggest adding a B/W adjustment layer set to Overlay at 15% opacity and then playing with the green, red, and yellow sliders to try and draw out the blacks while also adding some more grit. Also, go ahead and crop in tighter on the center so it takes over more of the frame. A large part of this photo’s allure is its creepy allusion to Oliver Parker and Orson Welles' Fade to Black, so play up the chaos by letting the black clutter up the whole shot.

Oh my goodness-laughing my head off! Thanks Rod for the tips!

And Ken, attached is an image taken with Stan's Finepix.

Amazing is an understatement. I have never seen a better image of a black hole.
