Magpie- not everyone's favourite bird.
Who would think that a bird so timid usually where man is concerned would sit 5 foot from a camera lens without a care in the world !
Another advantage over the Sigma 100-300- the 70 mm end of the Nikkor gives me more space.

In the 1970's I wrote an article for my then local paper, the Surrey Advertiser, in which I wrote about how timid magpies were, and how they rarely came into gardens. Needless to say, for the next three weeks the paper was inundated with letters from anybody who had ever had one at their bird table. In the intervening years magpies have become very confiding in many areas, probably as a result of the reduction in keepering. I still find them difficult birds to photograph though, as much because of the contrast between black and white plumage as anything else. Great effort here, John.

There are no magpies up here on the west coast of Scotland, just hooded crows so I am delighted to see this just as I am when down in England. Another cracking image JR.
