What is the maximum effective distance when using a better beamer on a 580EX? Do you find that as the subject gets closer you have to turn down the power on your flash unit? How 'bout multiple flashes? Guess I just need to get out and experiment with. A couple of hints to get me going would be nice...
Effective distance (in feet) will roughly equal guide number divided by f-stop used, assuming you are dialing in some minus flash exposure compensation as you would normally do for day light fill flash. Minus 1-2/3 always looked about right to me. No need to worry about additional flash exposure compensation using the BB.
