I'm in N. CA and the "local" Nikon repair place is in S. Ca. I'm always reluctant to ship a camera or lens in for repair, especially my 500mm.
There is an excellent Nikon-authorized repair place in Sacramento, and I happily drove up there this week to have them repair the broken tripod collar on the 500, the 1.7 TC that fell apart, and old but still good Nikon binocs.
The people are extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and repairs are timely and honest.
They are authorized repair facility for Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Sony, and all other camera brands.
