The native California wildflowers are in full bloom at the Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Tilden Park in Berkeley. There are Lilies, Clarkias, Monkeyflowers, Poppies, Buckwheat, Larkspurs, Western Columbines, Lupines, Wild Onions, Bush Anemones, Wallflowers, a number of species of Mariposa lilies, and many other flowers in bloom.
There is also bird and butterfly activity.

Sandy, I noticed you'd listed on your blog the fact that LA has canceled the plan to use the land next to Joshua Tree NP for a landfill. It was a long battle for over a ten year period and most recently over the last few years with lots of court cases regarding the subject. Thankfully it ended in favor of the entire surrounding area around JTNP. The thought of the trash gulls flying into the park for any reason was not a site anyone would like to see, along with the hot temperature stench the dump would permeate over the entire area also.
Anyway, some great news all around with a very positive write up in our local paper recently too. What truly came to the rescue was the positive actions taken by mankind that paid off big time. It was through the aggressive recycling programs LA had implemented over ten years ago that dropped the need for them to ship by rail their hoards of trash out to the desert area. So, good for them for taking the effort to do things right. :toast:
