Trouble With A Wratten 89B Infrared Filter

Hello Everyone!

Has anyone ever used an 89B Wratten filter for infrared work on a D70? I'm getting these images that look like they have a rough texture of sand on them while at other times the images are perfect. I think part of it has to do with the angle of the sun. At times you can see lines in the images along with the "sandy look" but when the sun is behind me I don't remember having a problem. It probably would be better to get something like a Hoya 72.

Thanks,

Steve

I have a D70 Paul which is successful doing infrared. I have many images shot with the D70 via infrared. Check out Bjorn Roslett's website which discusses the D70 and infrared. That's the site I got the info on and have also emailed him with the same question. I just have problems with the set on some of my images, but not all of them.

Thanks for telling me about the D70s as I'll be getting a backup D70 for infrared rather than spending the $1000+ pricetag to convert another camera.

Actually Paul, I didn't learn anything as I've been shooting in IR with the D70 for months and have a piece on display as I speak. According to Bjorn Roslett, my problem images were severely underexposed. I'm getting a backup D70 because the better digital gets, the more improved the camera manufacturers' IR filters get at removing the IR light, making it impossible to use the filters.

Here's the link to Bjorn's site if you are interested: http://www.naturfotograf.com/D70_rev05IR.html#top_page
