I was in the park Saturday and the wildflowers are exploding right now at the lower elevations. Should be pretty nice next week, but may be crowded. If you're looking for wildflowers check out Porter's Creek Trail in the Greenbriar section. If your looking for wildlife check out Cades Coves, but go early to avoid the crowds.
Thanks, Richard, I appreciate the info. I will not be doing much walking or hiking, that's why I wanted to do the motor trail as in previous years many wildfloweres were near the road. I don't plan to go into the Cove this trip, but would it be wise to take a telephoto( 200-400) just in case I spot a bear on the RFMNP. What are the chances of bears there? Thanks again for the info. Ray
Sorry to be so long in replying Ray. There is so little activity in the SENP forum that I forget to check.
Bears can be found in most any area of the park. I've seen them before on the RFMNP. Look up in the trees where they will be feasting. If there is one in sight of the cars there will be a bear jam, guaranteed! I would take the telephoto in the car just in case.
