I found this old Juniper up near Sonora Pass. I really like the contrast between the grey old wood and the living bark, as well the hook formed by an old branch.

Preston, this is just not getting me excited, wonderful detail and contrast but...not a wall hanger for me

I am pretty much with Reno on this image, PB. I really like the detail, colors and lines, but compositionally, it is not quite coming together for me.

Well boys, I'll just have to slightly disagree. While not a favorite of mine, I like the sweeping lines and the design, including the "hook." My suggestion to Preston was mitigating the distracting green that peers through the crack in the trees. I'm wishing it wasn't there, but since it is, you could desaturate, blur a little, or whatever. But overall, I think the image works - at least for me.

When an image tugs at a sense other than sight, as this one does to me, I'd say it works. Man, I can just feel that grain right through the screen. A kind of synesthesia is at work here. I won't want take issue with anyone about composition or unity, so aesthetics aside, I've got to say this image makes strong demands on my tactile senses.
