The Central Sierra Arts Council will be holding this event from Jaunary 18 to February 16, 2013 in Sonora. I believe that some
photography artists in Northern California might enjoy participating in this event. For more information go to:
Yes, this is a local event in that the Sierra Arts Council is based in Sonora, but they normally have entries from around the state. Also, The arts council is a non-profit organization that has helped many artists, in many different media, exhibit and promote their work. In short, the entry fees, which are modest in my opinion, do help artists. Additionally, the gallery show is always extremely well attended and I know of several photographers who have made sales.
I am seriously considering entering this year.

Thank you for your comments, Preston. I frequently participate and compete in photo events where
I have to pay an entry fee. It's understandable. The gallery space has a rental fee, utility bill, insurance
coverage, and employees, except for volunteers, who have to paid. Also, unless they volunteer, the judge(s)
must be paid for their time, travel, and experience. Of course, I'm somewhat disappointed when my work is
not accepted. However, I feel that my entry fee helped to fund an art program, and I try to make that the bottom
line. For me, supporting the arts is a very worthy donation, and I've spent my money well in doing so.
For the first time two years ago, I submitted three images for consideration. I really felt gratified when two were
accepted, particularly when I saw the show. The quality of the work I felt was very high.
I hope to see some NPN California entries this year.
