All NPN,

What do you all think of this. I'm not sure where to begin. I have never sold Wholesale. Could any of you provide any information for me? Thank You!

Cindy,
We're an art consultant located here in Wisconsin but we do jobs all across the US.

Right now, we have two clients in the state that are inquiring about photography by Wisconsin artists. We found you through an internet search and see that you do produce prints for sale of your images. Can you provide us with some sizes and wholesale pricing (unframed) so we can see whether you are someone we might work with on these projects. Keep in mind (as always nowadays) price will be as important as quality of the imagery.

We would only be interested in shots you've taken of Wisconsin.

Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi - Firstly, do you have a website or "presence" somewhere, where they could reasonably have seen your work - or is this part of a mass mailing from some list they got somewhere?
That will give you a clue if they are legitimate and worth more effort.
Then, take a look at some of the websites here on NPN for an idea of sizes and prices members ask.
This is a retail sale, not "wholesale" - unless they are intending to purchases a number of prints!

Wholesale price is usually expressed as a % of retail price. If you're the one doing the printing or paying for it to be done, I wouldn't consider doing it for less than half of retail on small orders, with "discounts" possible on really large orders of the same size photos of the same subject. In subsequent negotiations about discounts, you can draw those discount rates directly from the sites of the major print labs, which also offer discounts for larger runs.

My response to them would be to ask for their retail prices for different sizes, saying that you'll develop your wholesale prices from those. If they're "bonnified" they'll give you those retail prices and probably want to negotiate on % for singles, as well as discounts for larger runs.

Hank described what to do perfectly, let them tell you what they resell the images for. I work with a local framer/gallery and they have always told me what they plan on reselling my photographs for after they provide the framing. I find that very comforting to know up front and with that, both parties can be honest and satisfied with the final outcome.
