Smokies Photographic Report from this past weekend October 19-20-21.

1. Ramsay Cascades really really nice. Green-Reds-Yellows-Oranges--->Color all over creek...Drive Greenbrair Road all the way to the confluence of Porters Creek and Ramsay Creek. Turn left to road leading to parking lot from Ramsay CascadesTrail head. Start shooting right below parking lot and work way up creek.

2. 6 miles on Foot Hills Parkway from Hwy 40 to highway 321 in Cosby is UNBELIEVABLE...!!!!!!! RIGHT NOW AT PEAK.....I would go here before anywhere in park if you can make it the next 5 days.

3. 11 miles on Hwy 32 from Cosby over to Big Creek. Unbelievable road shots, Deep woods shots and overhead shots. This is Another MUST if you go in next 5 days.

4.Roaring Fork Motor Trail - First 3 miles past Ogle Cabin just Fantastic - Woodland shots and Historical Structure Shots

5. Climb down into creek Gorge on Roaring Fork Motor Trail right below "Place of a Thousand Drips" Beautiful Creek Shots with great Yellows.

6. West Prong of Little River below the Chimney Tops Trail Pull Off....great creek shots looking upstream with lots of yellows along creek.

7. Big Creek - Did not find anything down low near campground. Ran out of time to hike up trail.

8. Gravel Road from Big Creek over to Cataloochie - Drove 11 miles on Gravel Road....color very nice into woods but not much else.

7. Cosby Creek up to camp ground - Creek is no good too over grown with no color near creek.

8. Did not even attempt these locations because of too many tourons - Cades Cove, Elkmont, Tremont, Little River Road.

Good Luck...!

Will share photos soon...

Thanks so much for the report! I wish we got more feedback from others and what they had found...

Great report but it makes me sad because I'm at work and can't go. Wish fall was three months long :-(

over here near Brevard (west to Lake Toxaway) and the Parkway up 215, the color has been very poor this year. I arrived about a week ago and the leaves had only gone partially to yellow before they went to brown.

These were all shot on the six mile section of Foothills Parkway between Hwy 40 and Cosby...

I attempted a new artistic technique..?

Artistic #2 - simply putting your camera on tripod, set exposure for 6 tenths of a second and then simply tilt camera from ground to sky in a slow deliberate manor as photo exposes...

One more looking into the woods.

Very nice work, Harold! I am a sucker for those "into the woods" shots. They look so easy to do but it is really hard to get it all just right. Love the depth of colors, tonal ranges, sharp detail, lighting. I think the last image really rocks! I also like your blur experiments. Thanks for sharing. Ed
