Hi I do hope I'm not breaching any eticate but we are in Lake Tahoe CA for four days just arrived and would appreciate any local information on birding hot spots in the area.
From a photographic perspective.
Visiting from the UK so we have a total lack of local information any heads up would be greatly appreciated.

It may be a bit early yet for the Kokanee salmon run on Taylor Creek, but the mallards, mergansers and others (including frequent black bear visits) will congregate there in early to mid October. There are a few marshy areas in that vicinity as well. Should be able to find some osprey working around Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe. With day hikes to Glen Alpine Spring, Lily and Angora Lakes from the South end of Fallen Leaf Lake you should be able to spot songbirds, waterfowl, and woody's. You are fortunate to be there mid week while school is in session. For North Shore I would try walking along the Truckee River. Good luck.
