Any predictions on colors this year? I'm going to be in the Brevard, NC area October 14-17. Hope to shoot over the mountain to GSM after that. Do you think I'll be late? It's been dry here in Michigan not sure how things will pan out.

I don't have a sense yet whether this year will be early or not. Offhand, I think there is not much variability year to year as we sometimes perceive. The best predictor might be looking at when last year's peak foliage images were taken and going from there. I usually start posting what I am seeing around Shenandoah and hopefully some closer to GSM can do so too!

I live near Roanoke, VA and am on the Blue Ridge Parkway often. I actually take it to and from work 5 days a week. There is a little color starting now. I would say 10-15% of peak color. I have pictures from 10-25-2009 that show near peak color at low elevations while high elevations were well past peak, some spots the trees were bare. 10-13-2009 I have pictures in Shenandoah NP, and they show little or no fall color. It depends on the year and location.
I would think Oct 14-17 should be pretty good at GSM. Things were not dry here in Virginia, so hopefully the fall color will be vibrant.
