OK troops - need a little help. Looking for suggestions on places to shoot in the southeast during the last week of September. This week has just come open for me and I'd like to do some exploring. Too early for fall foliage but I'm always eager to explore so would welcome anything you're willing to share.

Are you looking to drive or fly somewhere from Jacksonville? How far are you willing to travel? If you have that time and can fly that is the usual peak weak for fall colors in the Rockies. In Shenandoah the watefalls are low, so I suspect but don't know that the same holds for the Smokies. I am also a fan of the marshlands that can be quite nice in early fall if you like the lowcountry. Also, what about the Everglades? Clyde Butcher has been doing some events in the swamp lately so it must be a good time for that too. Of course, he is in the swamp all the time and is one of the top 2 or 3 landscape photographers I know!

Hi Ed, Thanks for the input and good questions. Want to stay in southeast so no Rockies. Driving yes, flying no, 10-12 hour drives OK. Nothing south of Jax - enough of the Florida heat all year long, looking to go north or west. Have covered western NC fairly well and most of WV but that's about it so far. Eastern shores - not explored at all outside of Florida.
Thanks,
JR

Harris Neck NWR, Savannah NWR, Ace Basin NWR, Pinkney NWR, ad infinitum. Coastal Barrier Islands of GA and SC. Manifold state parks, etc. Okeefenokee. Any one or more of these spots are there with a little research.
