Beach Day
Angle at Beach day at the National Eagle Center.

This is one of those feel good stories that you hear about every once in a while. A number of years ago staff at the National Eagle Center
in Wabasha, Minnesota noticed that the captive eagles often stat on their perch looking longingly out at the Mississippi River that flows past the Center. The staff wondered if the birds would like to go down to the beach and enjoy taking a bath in the river. The answer was yes, and the response of the Center was to establish beach day.

We decided to drive down to Wabasha last Tuesday to visit the Center and take in beach day. Beach day is a popular event and can attract a large crowd. The Center does suggest that if you are driving any distance that you call ahead to see if the event is scheduled.

If you are ever in the area stop in and visit the National Eagle Center. It's a fascinating place and provides a good value for the money. It is even better if you happen to be in the area on Tuesday because you can also enjoy beach day.

More photos information from our visit to beach day can be found on my Blog.

Comments are welcome.

Phil looks like you got some great shots. I'm sure the eagles are treated well but it is sad to see such a wonderful bird not being able to be free. Looks like they do enjoy the beach though. Thanks for the photos and the story.

Second the Eagle Center in Wabasha! Great place along a super scenic area of the Mississippi too.

I would also highly suggest when in the area cross over into Wisconsin and drive through Nelson and visit the Nelson Cheese Factory. Great food, ice cream, wines, and of course cheese!

Yes! The Nelson Cheese Factory is always the last stop on the way home from any visit along the Mississippi.
