Does anyone use the book "Photographers Market" for reference to sales?

I buy the new one every year, go through it, mark it up, but am then too discouraged to bother moving any further than that. :frown:

I got into my first stock agency via the Photographer's Market, that was 15 years ago and I have never gotten a successful lead from it again. It is no longer relevant especially since all that info is free and online. Most libraries carrier them so spend an hour looking through it.

Yeah, and worse yet, PM doesn't include the most relevant info of all for us in pricing our bids- the per-page ad rates charged by the various pubs. We use that info as a "meter" of what pubs feel their pages are worth, which gives us a very important leg up in negotiations. And you can only get the ad rates on the web. Comparing ad rates with the pub's photo fees tells you a lot about their outlook, too.

Thanks for the response, I'm glad I asked.

If you're still checking back on this thread Robert, I'll add one point in favor of checking PM- It's kinda neat to skim through the pages looking for new-to-you markets. There's some amazing stuff in there that would never occur to you. I just visit the library to scan their copy once a year or so for such a limited use.

Thanks Hank, that is my plan of attack.
