Today was spent hiking the South Fork of Big Pine Creek and driving to Onion Valley. Both were new to me so I am unable to comment on how they were compared to other years. They are both good places to see high desert landscapes and flowers. Many species are in bloom but neither is a place to go if you are looking for big colorful displays.
I'd be much more likely to view and comment on your images if you were to post the image here along with your message. I am often in a hurry - as many of us are - and I do not wish to follow a link to another web page. I appreciate the larger view being available if I want to go there, but I don't like being forced to go there to see it.
Another wonderful update here, Sandy. I wish I had time to take in all the areas you've reported on recently. These reports are always helpful to those who want a pre-field of sorts on the wildflower progress. As my botany is extremely weak the posting of the various plant names is a plus IMO. Thanks again for this update.
The hike to Kearsarge Pass from Onion Valley passes through some lovely midsummer wildflower displays in shady moist areas not too far from the trailhead. In a short distance I've seen columbine, shooting stars and lilies. .
Nick,
I understand your being in a hurry and preferring to not have to click to go to another page. Uploading photos takes time and I try to get information on field trips up quickly even when I am on the road if possible.
I put the photos up on my blog ( which I can do very quickly) mainly for people to see what I am seeing. .
