Good afternoon. We will be going on a cruise (first one) from NY - Canada in late September, early October. While we have not booked it yet so I do not know the exact ports of call are I do know at least 1 or 2 are in Maine.

If possible we would like to see Puffin and any other wildlife. Can anyone tell me where they are and if they are around that time of year? Most of the boats that offer the Puffin tours seem to be for July / August. So I do not know if we will be too late. All suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

The Atlantic puffin typically nests on islands to produce there chicks and feed and nurture them to a point where they can fly and survive at sea. The puffins generally are gone from the islands in the gulf of Maine by the end of Jule - mid August.Puffins winter at sea living off fish that they dive for. I have seen puffins on Machias Seal Island in Augst but there are very few. If you are taking a criuse up to Canada you will likely see some puffins but they will be more likely to further north you go.

Jim, thank you. When I find out what our ports of call will be I will post them in case anyone has a suggestion on locations for wildlife. Thanks again.

I would be glad to help out also

I lead Acadia Instructional Photo Tours in June and October

We combined with the Puffins with our trip in June.

Just a warning the boat tour to the puffin gets cancelled occasionally in the event of bad weather.

Next year I am booking the boat two days for my tour.

I hope you get some great photos
