Annular Solar Eclipse from Lassen Volcanic NP
My brother and I snowshoed out to a remote ridge in Lassen to capture this sequence of the eclipse tracking above Mt. Diller. This was my first (and possibly last) attempt to photograph a solar eclipse. The concept is rife with post production challenges and I thought I would post the image here for some comments.

In addition to learning a few lessons about photographing solar eclipses I also learned:
1. When navigating in the compass mode on my gps I must place my body between the gps and camera case. Holding the gps next to the camera (even in the case) resulted in an error of about 10 degrees north.
2. Make sure the gps compass is set to true north not set to the local declination. All my headings from the photographers ephemeris were 'true north'. This added another 15 degrees north of error.
3. Make a check list for my brother. First he left his solar filter on the dashboard and then forgot his QR plate for his tripod.

There are more images here if you would care to view them:

Cool image Paul! Sounds like a fun, if not challenging adventure. It certainly was successful in the end.
