Saw a little item in the paper today that wolf OR7 is back in Calif. This is the same young male that travelled down from Oregon earlier this year and hung around for a while, then went back north. He's apparently in the same area he was before. Wonder how long he'll stay this time? Must be pretty lonely for an animal like the wolf that is a social animal.

Thanks for the update, Peter. I would assume it's very difficult as a pack animal to be out on it's own like this. The routine of not being able to hunt as a group has to be very stressful for long term survival I would think.

From the info that was with the story, this inddividual is quite resourceful. Apparently it has utilized deer killed by other predators and has fed on carcasses of domestic animals that it didn't kill. Fish and Game is asking ranchers in the area to leave out carcasses instead of burying them. Assume all of this was learned during it's first visit earlier.

If you are looking for more information on the wolf or want to follow where he has been you can go to the Fish and Game website on the wolf at: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/nongame/wolf/

Thanks for the updates Peter & Sandy. As a long time member of Defenders of Wildlife it's always nice to hear about some of the positive news with the ongoing wolf movements in the western states which is a very controversial issue.

Sandy, the link to the site has a pdf that shows a map of the wolf's movement since December. Man, that guy is really on the move.
