Heading out from Denver Wednesday night into Atlanta. Will have Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun and morning Monday to shoot. Looking for streams, waterfalls, new vibrant leaves etc. Was thinking about spending the time in Northern Georgia Mountains, GSMNP, NC. Looking for more specific places to go. Can any of you guys help? Dont any accommodation booked was just going to wing it! So open for place to shoot/visit.
Thanks
Jody

The service tree (sarvis) bloom along the Parkway should be good right along then. Some cloudy, foggy weather will give you muted pastels, and late warm sun will give you almost fall-like colors with red tree buds and white sarvis. I'll be at Graveyard Fields that weekend, maybe do an overnight car camp at Black Balsam about a mile from there.

J:
Just returned from GSMNP... still some wildflowers, with most of the bloom moving to higher elevations. The trees and ferns are still vibrant "spring green" as of yesterday. Things at mid to higher elevations should start coming out. Streams are running well... not real sure what one should expect, but relative to out west, the streams are nice - with lots of green around them.
Not sure what I am going to be doing next weekend just yet... but it's a 3-day weekend for me, so I may be up popping around a bit. May go after waterfalls myself... though Mr. Hamley's idea might appeal since I am on the east side of GSMNP and the Parkway is a little closer.
As for accommodations... if you plan on camping, check online, but I think most of the GSMNP campsites are still first-come-first-served, and Elkmont was almost completely full Friday night. Cherokee on the south end and Gatlinburg on the north both looked pretty open (lots of "Vacancy" signs), but as the weather warms, more tourons will pour in there (some places weren't even open for "the season" yet).
That's all I have on GSMNP... perhaps someone else can add some wisdom for the surrounding areas...?
Drop me a line if you think you might want to try to hook up (email me from the button on this post) - I'm a noob here too, but two bewildered western squirrels might still find a nut or two. Otherwise... happy hunting!
