I have a prospective client that would like me to photograph his restaurant. He wants food shots as well as interior and exterior shots. He would like to pay me an hourly rate. I am just curious if any one would care to offer up what they think is a reasonable hourly rate for this type of work. What would you suggest charging for the photos on top of that? Or would you wrap them into a higher hourly rate? I certainly don't want to undercut myself.
Thanks,
Greg

Greg,
I really have no experience with this but would like to offer my opinion just based on being fair all around. I think if they pay you an hourly rate to take pictures and you believe that it covers all your costs plus your profit, then the photos are theirs.. If they would like them PP'd that would be an additonal charge. If, however, they hire you to take photos and pay you for the photos instead of an hourly rate, then you would factor in your costs and profit would go into that charge. I hope this is of some value strictly from what IMHO is a fair way to go.

I've done this before with out giving prints just media files. Usually charge per shot $250 to $300 and it's only a very small amount of shots. Sounds like the establishment wants a slew of photographs and only wants to pay for your time in the store. My post time is usually double the amount of time in the store. You might want to find out what kind of budget they have so you can negotiate your time spent or what it is they can afford.
I have a small business promotion package I offer local places: I come in and shoot the place inside and out (with outdoor shots done at twilight to make them ecstatic and my portfolio look better, lol). I have actions set up to sharpen and saturate and vignette corners so post work isn't too dragged out but the stuff looks good. They get a disc with 1280x720 images at 96dpi and 8x10 @ 300dpi in case they decide to advertise in the Chamber of Commerce magazine. $699 plus sales tax. Small business aren't going to use your image all over the world like Hilton or Marriott so I don't stress how often they use the shots. Few hours work total and the local guy is taken care of. Bigger places will pay that for just a few images but for local joints I think it's a nice package. ONE THING: If the food part gets extensive and you have to bring in lighting, find that out up front and increase the package to at least $899.
There you go, a starting point. If someone replies and says I'm nuts and that you should charge $1800 for the job, then go for it!!

Thank you everyone! I have been able to contact a local photographer who prices more in the range of Paul and that is just the day rate. Using the images costs extra and exclusive rights costs a lot more.
I appreciate everyone's help!
