Hi everyone!

I am heading to Massachusetts on Friday for some shooting at Plum Island.

If anyone wants to meet up Jim Deasy and I will be headed for PI on Saturday morning. Let's plan to meet at the parking lot on the left after the gate.

Cheers!

Nick

Forecast for Saturday is snow flurries. . . no telling what the weather will be on the coast. Nick and I will arrive at Plum at about 7:00 AM which is right around sunrise. The first parking lot is in from the entrance past the gate house and is where there is a bathroom. Snowy Owls have been sight on the reservation Wednesday Feb 8th and I don;t think they have updated the website for today as of 8:26 PM Thursday evening

Things you should see before going there:
Recent birding sightings: http://www.bartonstreet.com/tom/birds/pisightings.html

Map of the refuge: http://www.fws.gov/northeast/parkerriver/pdf/Parker%20River%20Map.pdf
(The parking lot Nick and i will go to and wait until 7:30 is marked on the map as number 1)

The US fish and wildlife service runs the refuge and the entrance fee is $ 5.00 /car or if you have the season pass that will get you in. The booth is not manned thi stime of year they will have an iron ranger to collect the fees

The town of newburyport and Mass audibon are running an eagle fest on Saturday. they will have spotting tour to look for eagle in all the usual places and other activities. You can read about them here: http://www.fws.gov/northeast/parkerriver/pdf/eaglefest2012.pdf

This time of year is usually good for eagles because they come to the coast to find open water for fish. Given the mild winter the eagles migh tnot be here in the same number as they might normally be. The eagle feast is a more of a family thing and geared to photographers.

Things to see in the area: The Mass Audibon Joppa flats education center:

Parker River refuge HQ: http://www.fws.gov/northeast/parkerriver/visit.html

If you plan to come by post something so we will know to look for you. .
