Good seeing alot of you last week. It was busy, wet, but great!
Sorry I missed Bret Friday morning, but I doubt you made it up to Clingmans Dome for sunrise (dont tell me you did!?)
I photographed this little scene on Wednesday, and by Friday afternoon, the trilliums were gone - picked by someone (I hope not by a photographer) Jerry and I also ran into a situation where two yellow lady slippers were picked by someone. Another was about to bloom and we were able to photograph it Sunday with the workshop group.

Great shot Richard!! Was your workshop group in Tremont Friday afternoon? I came around a bend in the road where there was 2 little waterfalls on the right and the river on the left... cameras and tripods everywhere

Richard,
I love the shot... it has "Smokies" written all over it!
As to the flower pickers, we walked back to the tub mill on the nature trail behind Bud Ogle cabin and there was a man and his wife who had dug up a large, beautiful trillium. He was so proud of it and couldn't wait to get home to plant it in a container. I told him that there was a $1000 fine and he decided to "put it back". It's disheartening that this stuff goes on but it's happening all the time.

Richard,
This is beautiful. Bret and I were looking for a similar composition all weekend. Unfortunately I didn't find one. I wish we could have met!
I love this shot. Great comp and color. Similar to one Jerry posted a couple of years ago. Wish I had made it up this year. Seems every spring I have stuff going on at work. You really have to time the trillium right... That said, it really burns me up that someone would pick these flowers. I would have a hard time holding back from giving someone a piece of my mind if I caught them digging these out...
This is really beautiful, Richard. Josh is right, we looked in earnest but could not find anything this nice. Found a few along one stream but they were all facing the wrong way!
Hope the workshop went well, despite the uncooperative weather.
Re: the picking of wildflowers, it ticks me off. So do people who take their dogs on trails in the park, where they are not allowed. People have no respect whatsoever.

I agree about the flower pickers. How sad and thoughtless!
I dislike the dog rules intensely, although I understand why they are needed in a park with the visitation level of GSMNP, so I follow them. My dogs love to go hike and photograph with me.
Richard, the shot is beautiful, even if tinged with sadness that someone destroyed the scene afterward.
You know I love this one, and HATE that the flowers were gone, I would have loved to get a similar shot! Apparently the flowers were not dug up, but picked off. The yellow ladys slippers were picked off right below the flower...a shame people don't respect nature and leave it for all to enjoy!
Richard, an outstanding shot. I like the composition a lot. The three flowers lead my eye to the rock and then the water. Sorry to hear about the flowers being picked. Most transplants like this won't live anyway even for someone who is knows what they are doing. Too bad!
Nice shot.. I was just asking Hamley about these very trilliums Saturday and he said he figured they would be past peak... guess he should have said "past pick". Realy nice shot ... well I guess there will always be next year.

These very trillium? Where were they? Low altitude trillium were getting a bit past.

Nice shot Richard, looks great. Sometimes the Lady's Slippers get eaten by deer. But at The Smokies it could have very well been people.

Robert,
people are eating the lady's slippers?

Steve,
I know people that eat dandelions, maybe people did eat them.
