AV 2006: Gaskell & 195th St
It should be pretty obvious that given our recent posts, Youseff and I have been traversing the same places!

Antelope Valley 2006

Sigma 20mm

This one is getting hurt by JPG, had to save at Detail Level 5, instead of the normal 9 - 11.

Christian,

Nice. Intstant recall whenI saw this. Gaskell & 195th and west to 200th is the palce in AV this year. When did you photograph this? The goldenfileds are starting to look a little brown, and possibly past peak.

The shadowing on the hills in the back and the curled up poppies tell me you probably took the shot 4pm to 4:30pm-ish? Shooting time even on sunny calm days is 9am to 3pm. Was there last Thursday. Goldfields were already looking sun-fried and dessicated which removes a major aethetic backdrop to all the poppies. Poppies however still look fine. Also some nice areas of pretty thistle sage up those dirt roads above the poppy plains underneath the joshua tree creosote bush woodland. ...David

Actually taken closer to 630pm it was really windy and only in the low 50's that day. They were closed up pretty much the whole day.

PS don't mistake my fits w/ color balance in this image for dried up flowers. The tones still don't seem right.

Nice job, I know how windy it can be up there. I like the placement of the shrubs. The goldfields do indeed look on their way out.

The colors look right to me.
