I spent a long day hiking and photographing Shenandoah yesterday. Conditions are at peak or even slightly past from just north of 33. Winds were howling much of the day and there has been some heavy rain so leaves are falling. But the streams and waterfalls are fun and the colors were just beautiful. South of 33 needs a few more days, maybe a week especially on the lower slopes.

Ed, I was there all last week and it rained late Tuesday, all day Wednesday and part of Thursday. I did the Rose River loop hike on Friday and the water with the colors was the best I've ever seen. The wind on Thursday and Friday in combination with the rain did take a lot of the leaves off the trees near Skyland and Big Meadows.
Bill, I hope you post some of your shots. I am thinking about heading back up there tomorrow since I think more rain, clouds and fog should be rolling in! I also thought the colors and conditions were the best I have seen. I focused mostly on the White Oak canyon trail which I had not explored much in previous falls. Here is one of those shots. I also thought Big Meadows was really amazing in the fog.
