Irvine "Open Space" Sunset
Figured I'd post a shot from "home"... this shot was taken no more than 1/2 mile from the 405, but is in an "open space" area set aside by The Irvine Corporation.

Fuji S2 Pro
Sigma 20mm
Grads and Fill Flash (don't recall the specifics, this was in Feb-2005)

Nice shot! Which open space is this? I know I have looked into several of the Irvine preserves and for the vast majority of them you need to schedule a naturalist/guide to go with you (I assume its for groups). Kinda stinks that there are all these wilderness areas set aside that you really can't access.

Chris,

This is on the hills on the beach side of the 405, just South of the Sand Canyon / Shady Canyon exit, behind the residential areas.

It was taken last year... I went to hike up there yesterday and there was a huge gate and posted "no tresspassing" sign. Closed to public use, open for docent led tours, etc.

I don't get it... for starters, this is not "wilderness" in the true federal sense of the word. I can see concrete for as far as the eye can see and hear traffic from the 405. I am going to call and see if I can get a permit... it said to call for info.

Anyway, there's no lupine there anyway. Some mustard and the beginning of thistles, but those won't bloom until it gets quite hot (like late June).

I like the freshness offered by the foreground foliage. I am a little disturbed by the darkness near the top of the distant hill (is it from a grad ND) but otherwise this is great.
