I thought for the June Photo Art Theme we would try doing Photo Art without the use of plug-ins or filters. It will be fun challenging to stretch ourselves by playing around with the many sliders and adjustments in our software of choice. You can combine programs like Lightroom, Elements,Photoshop, etc.. just don't use the filters. I am excited to see what kinds of images we can come up with and I bet we will learn some new techniques and find new discoveries in our base programs. You can combine images, add textures, anything you want just don't use plug-ins or filters. When you post your image say a little bit about how you arrived at your finished product. Remember this is not required it is up to you if you want to do it or not. Above all things have fun and let creativity be unleashed...

PS:Think of some themes for the coming months and post them on the forum.

David, this is extremely interesting and a great challenge. Would you be able to tell me just very briefly and basically how you add textures without using a filter? Maybe some other people also don't know.

Barbara basically you have another image say for example an image of an old plastered wall looking rather rough. You would then add that as a layer on top of the image you want to add the texture to. You would try various blend modes to see which one looks best. I generally try the multiply, screen, soft light and overlay blending modes. You can then change the opacity of the layer to get the right look. If you add a layer mask you can paint away any area where you don't want the texture. I hope this makes sense.

David, ah, you're taking us back to the basics ... life before plug-ins. I think we're all up for the challenge. Game on! See ya in June.

David, for the June Theme, how do you feel about abstract art? I was working with my Jack-in-the-pulpit image and tried some of the features in Photoshop, i.e. twirl, liquify, etc. and came up with a very abstract piece. It was very fun but not sure if this would fit with the June Theme. Thoughts? Thanks.

The only problem would be they are filters in Photoshop that I thought we would stay away from for this challenge. But abstract images would be great.
