Baltimore Orioles
Just before Mother's Day my wife saw an oriole at our bird feeding station. I quickly put some sugar water and grape jelly out. Normally we have a couple of them show up at the feeder early in the spring. They Monday after Mothers Day we had our first big storm. We lost power early in the morning and it was raining heavily so there wasn't much to do but settle in with a good book by the window. Much to my surprise the feeding station was overrun with orioles during the day. I had seven at one time all but one of them males. A few days later there were eight at the feeder this time about half of them were females. Apparently this is a very unusual year for orioles because the topic was mentioned in the local paper and when I went to the store to get grape jelly the store was all sold out. This is a male taken while it was still raining out.

Good work, Phil! I didn't know about the grape jelly trick. We've been seeing them at my place, too...

Tim!
