Hi all. My family will be spending the first week of June in Destin. When not lounging on the beach I am hoping to get some photography in. Does anyone have any suggestions for good landscape locations? I see there is a preserve area to the east (Topsail Hill) and Gulf Islands about an hour west. Any thoughts on these or other locations?
I'm not really equipped for serious birding (longest lens I own is a 200mm with a 1.4 converter), but would welcome those options as well.
Toward the west, Navarre/Gulf Island is a photographers dream at sunrise/sunset. However, I believe during June the Sun rises and sets behind the ocean not over it. Toward the East, Seaside is a quaint old fashioned area if you like that type of thing. Be warned, there are a lot of people in the Seaside/Destin area, Navarre is much less populated.. If you want to see some shots of the area, this guy does a great job http://www.pbase.com/jwaldorff
Something not to miss is the Destin East Pass when the tide is coming in. You have never seen more color in the water.
Thanks Julie for the input. I checked the Photographer's Ephemeris and sure enough the sun will not be cooperating with the timing of my visit. Looking at Jeff's pics makes that fact even more disappointing. I'll be sure to check the Pass as you suggest. My daughter likes doing HDR with older buildings so Seaside is also a possiblility (assuming she is willing to give up the beach!)
