A couple of weeks ago, my family and I were walking in the University of Wisconsin Arboretum. We saw a couple of Sandhill Cranes while there, along with many other wonderful spring signs. I'd hoped to get back there and maybe photograph the cranes before they flew away, but didn't get the chance.
Today, I found an hour to get back to Arb, just enjoying most everything there. I went back to the same marsh, not even looking for the cranes, expecting that they'd long ago headed north. Well, imagine my pleasant surprise when I scanned the cattails and found someone sitting there, likely keep her eggs warm...

Tim - I love seeing these birds. Her mate should be close by and if she is indeed keeping eggs warm, they should be hatching soon and maybe you'll have some chicks to get some shots of later. Not sure if this is full-frame or already cropped, but you migh consider taking some off the top (particularly the lone cattail head). Thanks.
What a great find! And if they do have little ones soon, that would be a fantastic opportunity. I agree with Mike that a small crop off the top would be good.
Good comments, Mike & Deb - you're right! :) I'm always amazed at how these things slip by some times...
I did a portrait shoot yesterday for a graduate, and it was only when I was editing the photos that I realized that I'd missed fixing some of the grad's clothing - argh! I fixed it in later poses/photos, but didn't realize that his tassle had been hanging incorrectly 'til about half-way through the shoot...
Sometimes things work out even beter than we expect. It would be great to get to see the chicks and some images of them even better. Not to be difficult but to crop or not makes no difference to me.

Enjoy,
