Hi everyone,

I just found out that I am heading to St Mary's GA for a few days in early July to visit some family that just moved there. Having never been, I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any great locations?

Thanks,

Scott

A wonderful place accessed via ferry right from St. Marys is Cumberland Island. Go spend the day or camp and spend a couple. Wild ponies, lots of birds, other wildlife, old ruins, cemetary, relics, dunes, beach, you name it. Really cool. Other places nearby are: Crooked River State Park in Georgia, Fort St. George in Darien, Howfyl-Broadfield Plantation, Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, south to Fernandina Beach in Florida (about 30 minutes from St. Marys - not far). Further drive Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Google any of these to see what they have and distances but they are all wonderful spots for photography and nature photography. Any specific questions about any, let me know. Have fun. JR

While in St. Marys you should go see/shoot the John Houston McIntosh tabby ruins across from King's Bay Sub Base. They are pretty special and VERY close to St. Marys. Most people do not even know they are there. You can check them out in advance on my website. Go here:

Thanks for the tips guys! John - sadly I don't think my inlaws would be happy if I came to town to see their new home and immediately went and slept in a tent an hour a way. :) So I think camping is out.
