I'm working on my portfolio to take and show prospective clients and I'm having a hard time deciding how to show them. I've been leaning towards using a 11x14 portfolio box, but should I matte the prints? Do you all do anything similar that works? Are you just using a "photo album" as your portfolio? Or do you do it all via the Internet and soft copies?
Jon,
I use a 16x20 portfolio box. I keep separate boxes, for subject matter. I mount the prints on foam core board and print the images with a nice white boarder. People love the handle prints. Hope this helps.
Thanks Michael, that does help. Do you use 2-inch deep boxes or 4-inch? From what I've estimated, about 10 matted/mounted prints can fit in 2-inches. I'm leaning towards the 4-inch to carry more prints, but do clients think 20 prints are too many to view in a sitting?
What about using an iPad? Does anyone here do that? I know a lot of sports photographers that have switched to using an iPad for their portfolios. Seems a heck of a lot more convenient, though you sacrifice something in terms of image size.
I've just been researching this myself (in hopes of showing to galleries) and what I have read is that matted and mounted prints is the way to go versus digital, as it gives them something to hold. I am going to use a 4" box and see how it goes. Good luck Jon.
