I have a likely simple question. This weekend I was shooting and I shot several images that I exposed for only a small part of the image and the rest was intended to be in the shadow to add drama. The image worked quite well and was shot in raw.
When I opend the photo in Camera raw the auto mode that initally comes up did a conversion that was way different than I wanted the timage to look. By clicking the check boxes to eliminate the auto correction (in this case the auto ruining functions).
Is there a way to turn off this so that the image does not come up with the autocorrection? I was thinking there should be a way to cahnge this default, but last night I could not find it.
Uncheck all the boxes and set the sliders where you want, then click on the little circled arrow next to the drop box and select "Set new Camera Raw Defaults" (or something like that - I don't have it in front of me). This will replace the default settings with the ones you tweaked yourself.

Guy - thanks I try that this evening. I knew it was something like that.

Scott - Make sure to also change the Curve to "Linear" before saving your new Camera Raw Defaults, plus any other changes you want on the other tabs. All of these settings will be saved into the new default.
