Do any of you out there get lenses serviced on a regular basis? The only time I've sent lenses to the shop is when there is an obvious problem, but I wonder if that is being penny wise and pound foolish.

We're in the same boat as you Pete. We strive to keep them clean and in good working order on our own, and only pass them to higher authorities when fixes are beyond our reach.

That's a good question. I might email Canon's Tech Support and ask them that. Usually you only hear about the body getting a cleaning and tune-up. Even Canon Professional Services provides a coupon for a free body/sensor clean when you sign up, but you never hear of lenses being mentioned. I imagine that a travelling photographer who bumps their gear a lot (or has to... gulp... CHECK IT IN at the airport) would benefit from an adjustment check.

Pete, since this topic is photography related I think it really should be in the NPN Discussion Forum where I think you would get more responses. I'd like to hear what more people have to say on this topic.

I abuse my gear so badly that if i sent it out for service every time something was off, id never have a lens to use. So, i just wait until its inoperable....

Would you please talk to my wife! She says the same thing about me, pointing out that a year later her gear is always pristine and mine looks like it fell out of a moving truck! :jump:
