The largest nature magazine in Finland organised a photo competition last autumn, and the results are now out. The competition was free for all, free in subject, and only had one category. The magazine's article about the competition (with images!) can be viewed online here:
There were more than 1000 participants, with three photos allowed each. The judges included two well-known nature photographers and the editor of the magazine (judges introduced on page 7). 32 photos were printed in this issue of the magazine (including the cover and the image above the Contents, pp. 2-3 here). The article begins on page 5.
2nd place winner (Peter Byrne: 'Centre of Attention') is on p. 6 (also received an honourable mention in Digital Camera Photographer of the Year a year ago)
3rd place winner (Rauno Sahimaa: 'The Fly') is on pp. 8-9
1st place winner (Ilari Tuupanen: 'Summer Night') is on pp. 18-19 (the photographer is only 16 years old!)
Below the top three, the pictures aren't placed in a particular order (well, they are, but we're not told what the order is). One of my favourites is the jellyfish image on pp. 12-13.
I just hope the online version works for you as smoothly as for me. You can zoom in on the view and then grab and drag. There may be some unclear aspects in this article for non-locals so if you have any questions, of course I'll try to answer them as best I can.
