best south florida photo ops?
I'll be taking a trip to Naples, FL during the last week in February this year. I have been to many of the obvious places, and will visit them again- Ding Darling, Corkscrew Swamp, Eagle Lakes, and Lover's Key are my favorite spots. But I'm always on the lookout for new hotspots to explore. I may take a couple days and drive from Naples to Key West, so I'm definitely looking for any key spots along that route as well. I'm going to make a concerted effort to be in the everglades at sundown on at least one of the days, so I'm wondering if there's a preferred place to be to watch the daily influx of birds coming in for the evening. I'm getting more interested in playing with the HD video feature of my slr, and that subject matter seems definitely more suited to video than still shots. Any thoughts would be most helpful. Here's a shot of a tricolored heron from Lover's Key last year.

It's been at leave 7 years since I went down there but I did a lot of shooting that visit in the heart of the Everglades and Ding Darling. In going back through my images, some of my favorites were the sunset landscapes in the Everglades with the birds returning to their roosts as accents to some exquisite light. And I think the black and white possibilities are exquisite there, especially if you have some storms. Check our Clyde Butcher's gallery if you are in the neighborhood. He may be the best large format b&w photographer around. Share your goodies with us when you return!
