How do you find a reputable art consultant, who will buy your work to place in a company, hospital, etc?

I've seen them advertised for artists in the back of fine arts mags. That's how a friend who's a successful painter found his. But I'm not aware of any "art consultants" putting framed photos into commercial buildings who buy the photos first, or at least give the photographer a fair price before doing so.

We do our own "art consulting" for placements in public and commercial buildings. We contact the owners or respond to RFP's and do all the work ourselves. LOTS more money in it for us that way.

Google certainly returns a healthy list of consultants under the search "art consulting". Fine Art magazines like Hank mentioned would also be a good channel. In either case they're going to have to pay for the advertising to get placement with either channel, so hopefully that will weed out the swindlers. But even after starting down that path, I would ask for references before signing on. You'll also want a complete overview of there fee schedules.

Of course Hank's method of replying to RFPs and calls for entry is a valid option as well. You'll have to do much more legwork but you'll pocket all the proceeds.

I've gone the same route as Hank, but have considered the other route as well. There are several methods of art consulting I've seen from the sideline, but I'm not aware of any that buy the work upfront. Doesn't mean they don't exist.
