I had planned to meet the CNPA at Congaree last Sunday but I couldn't get away. I plan to go this Sunday. I have never been there. Can anyone advise what the best areas in the park are? Any suggestions are appreciated so I can make the best of the day!! Thanks.
Make sure it's overcast or shoot very early / late. I found lots of nice forest scenes along the several miles long boardwark / trail from the visitors center, but it was mid-day so no good pictures.
Personally I find Weymouth Woods a lot more photographically interesting, but you could get some nice wooded swamp scenes from Congaree with the right light.
I would definitely bring the widest lens you have.

Not sure what you are looking for Alice... I was there a few weeks ago and the water levels around the normal boardwalks were seemingly very low and there hasn't been a whole lot of rain. I also walked one of the woodsy trails (can't remember the name and don't have my map handy) and came away with nothing of note.
Since I've not been in the SE in Spring before, I do not know if anything actually blooms in Congaree. You may wish to call ahead, or contact someone that went last week to see what's up there. Who knows... maybe you'll get the first pics of the ivory-billed woodpecker that's got them in a stir there!!
I did, however, go down to Charleston to Cypress Gardens and their azaleas and some other flowers were in full bloom around the ponds and swampy cypress groves.
There's also Francis Beidler near Harleyville - which may have more water. Again, a call ahead might save some frustration.
Oh... if you head toward the coast and don't like crawly things (or they like YOU too much), take bug spray because they are making their presence known (I'm allergic to pretty much all of the annoying bitey things, and live by DEET).
