I am just wondering about folks' personal experiences in this department at art shows? Does pretty much everyone just accept personal checks nowadays? Has anyone had a bad experiences with this? Is there anything I should know ahead of time? Your input is greatly appreciated.

I've been doing shows for several years now and have accepted countless checks w/ zero problems (knock on wood! ). I don't think art festival shoppers are the most likely bunch to be bouncing checks.
I have been doing small show business for 38 years.
I do not need a 4 per cent partner for the "privilege" of accepting plastic. If the banks want to invest 4 per cent in my business I will accept them as "partners."
I have had but one problem and that was from a fellow "dealer" who made good on the check.
I am against the movement to a cashless society.

This reminds me of a story I heard several years ago. A woman went to a garden center and wanted to buy a large amount of peat moss but found she didn't have enough cash. She asked if they would take a personal check to which they said "yes". When she commented that a lot of businesses weren't taking personal checks they responded "Crooks don't buy peat moss". In my experience selling photos at art and craft fairs, crooks don't buy art either.
